Possum Problems? Our Wildlife Removal Experts Can Humanely Evict These Weird Looking Critters!
It’s easy to understand why coming face to face with a possum gives people quite a shock! These bizarre looking marsupials are essentially harmless, but that doesn’t mean we want them living in our attics! Our wildlife removal experts safely remove these critters from your home and return them to their natural habitat.
Understanding These Strange Intruders
Possums are North America’s only marsupial and, like their Australian kangaroo counterparts, they raise their young (called joeys) in a pouch. While fascinating, these wild animals are unwelcome guests in your home and can make quite a mess. It is important to have wildlife removal experts handle these strange animals as they often harbor dangerous diseases.
Our Possum Control Process
Site Assessment
Our first step is always to undertake a thorough site investigation. We will look for points of entry for the possums, assess the severity of your infestation, check for secondary infestations by roof rats or squirrels, and discuss removal options with you.
Possum Removal
Generally, possum removal requires using live traps to safely and humanely trap the possums. Afterwards we’ll collect the traps and relocate the animals. Possums enjoy certain state and federal protections and we follow all applicable regulations.
Exclusion, Sanitizing, and Damage Remediation
After the possums have been removed we will seal up all available entry points, preventing them from being able to return. Next, we’ll thoroughly clean and sanitize the impacted areas. Lastly, we’ll repair any damage they may have caused – possums are notorious for shredding insulation to make their nests and love chewing on wires!

Frequently Asked Questions
Are possums and opossums the same?
In the United States there is only a single species of possum, known to biologists as the Virginia Opossum or Didelphis virginiana. This means that whether you need opossum removal or possum removal, you’re asking for the same thing!
Are possums dangerous?
Possums are not aggressive and when confronted by a human or pet will generally play dead (this is where the expression ‘playing possum’ comes from!). Unlike many mammals, possums almost never carry rabies.
However, despite their mellow disposition, possums can harbor fleas or ticks and may carry illnesses including leptospirosis and typhus.
Is it legal to keep possums as pets?
In South Carolina it is only legal to keep a possum as a pet if you have a permit. In North Carolina it is always illegal to keep a possum as a pet.
Regardless of legal status, we strongly recommend against trying to keep a possum as a pet as they are wild animals and commonly carry dangerous diseases.
What areas in my home do possums like to live in?
Possums are commonly found living in attics, crawlspaces, sheds, and even unoccupied cars or campers. The animals are excellent climbers and attics are their preferred location as they are elevated, warm, and full of fluffy insulation which they will use to make their dens!
Does possum repellent work?
There are no chemicals which have been shown to be effective possum repellents. Some DIY remedies use noxious chemicals which can cause health problems in humans or build up in the environment and we recommend that you contact a wildlife control specialist instead.
