Most of us jump and scream when we catch sight of a spider, especially a giant tarantula! That’s not the case for ‘Bull City Burger’ restaurant in Durham, North Carolina. These guys aren’t afraid of spiders, in fact, they’re putting them on their burgers. spider on burger

Believe it or not, this locally owned restaurant and craft brewery is serving up a juicy burger topped with a real tarantula. In April the establishment hosted ‘exotic meat month’ which celebrates the consumption of exotic meats around the world.

This isn’t the first time Bull City Burger has put exotic animals on their burgers. Here are all the other critters they’ve served up between their buns:

  • Alligators
  • Iguanas
  • Camels
  • Elk
  • Pythons
  • Turtles
  • Various Insects

The restaurant owner, Seth Gross, explained that by serving up these exotic animals and incorporating them into his burgers he’s helping to educate his customers on the real-world diversity of exotic culinary practices around the globe.

Not everyone can try the tarantula burger, however, as the restaurant only purchased 15 farm raised furry crawlers to serve up. They actually created a lottery system that allowed customers to fill out a ticket and be entered in a drawing to get their own spider burger.

If their name gets drawn, they’re given two days to come in and eat their very own tarantula burger, served on top of pasture-raised NC beef burger, gruyere cheese, and spicy chili sauce. The burger costs $30.

So what’s it taste like?

If you finish your burger, you get awarded with a one of a kind t-shirt and a story you’ll always be able to tell.

If you prefer your burgers without spiders, you probably prefer your house without them as well.
